3 October, 2019 –
October is Sexual Violence Awareness Month which aims to raise awareness about sexual assault and highlight the support options that are available to those who have been affected by sexual assault and sexual abuse.
One in five women and one in twenty men over the age of 15 have experienced sexual assault in their lifetime. It is imperative that the clear message is upheld that sexual assault will not be tolerated in our community or any other.
The theme for this year’s campaign is “Start by believing”, designed to change the way we respond to victims of sexual assault and remind us that one of the most important things to say to someone disclosing sexual assault is “I believe you.”
