New Facilities Program helping to support women and girls participating in local sport and active recreation

Get in the Game Female Facilities Program

3 August 2017 –

Providing opportunities for girls and women to get involved in local sport in our community is really important, which is why I’m excited about the Queensland Government’s new Female Facilities Program.

This program will support the construction of female amenities in sport and recreation clubs in our community and right across Queensland. There is up to $15 million available to help clubs to encourage more women and girls to get involved in sport and active recreation.

Many clubs across the state were built in an entirely different era, when far fewer women and girls played club sport or participated in active recreation. The Female Facilities Program aims to address this identified need for dedicated female amenities so that women playing sport can do so with equal opportunity and dignity.

We want to provide more opportunities for Queenslanders to participate in sport and active recreation at the grassroots level, and by encouraging organisations to build suitable facilities we’ll be providing better access to all.

The Female Facilities Program is part of the Government’s Get in the Game initiative, which supports local sports and recreation clubs. Eligible organisations can apply for up to $500,000 (GST Exclusive). Round 1 opens for applications on 3 October 2017.
