15 October, 2019 –
Great to finally see some storm clouds over Stafford recently.
However, when it comes to natural disasters in Queensland, it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’.
This week is Get Ready Queensland Week 2019 (13–19 October) and it’s the perfect time to get thinking about how you can prepare your household for whatever Mother Nature has in store this disaster season:
- Update your household emergency plan
- Check your emergency kit
- Clear your gutters and tidy the yard
- Check your insurance is up to date
- Talk to your neighbours to make sure they’re ready.
The Queensland Government and the Get Ready Queensland team, including Ambassador Johnathan Thurston, are urging all Queenslanders to check their ‘WHAT-IF?’ plan and get ready to respond if a disaster strikes.
In the past decade, Queensland has been impacted by more than 80 significant natural disaster events, resulting in tragic loss of life and more than $15.7 billion in damage to public infrastructure.
As the most vulnerable state in Australia to natural disasters, it’s incredibly important that we take steps to prepare.
