Free apprenticeships for 60,000 young Queenslanders

More than 200,000 new jobs have been created since 2015

26 August, 2019 –

The Palaszczuk Government is building a strong future for QueensIand – and that means jobs, jobs, jobs.

Already, more than 200,000 new jobs have been created since 2015, with 6,100 jobs created in July – and more to come!

At the heart of the our government’s plan is an investment in training and skills development for young people.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk recently announced free apprenticeships and traineeships for up to 60,000 young Queenslanders aged under 21.

This is a $32 million investment in fully subsidised training across almost 140 priority qualifications, kickstarting careers in traditional trade areas such as electrical, plumbing and engineering as well as non-trade areas such as healthcare, hospitality and early childhood.

This announcement is part of our Skills for Queensland strategy to encourage local businesses to hire more tradies and young workers – by removing the training costs associated with hiring apprentices and trainees.

We want as many young Queenslanders as possible to take up the opportunity for free apprenticeships and traineeships.
