17 December, 2019 –
The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has released its residential electricity price trends report covering the three-year period from 2018-19 to 2021-22.
The latest report shows that the Palaszczuk Government’s Affordable Energy Plan is putting downward pressure on power prices. Queensland has the lowest wholesale prices on the eastern seaboard.
It’s clear that we can put downward pressure on prices because we own our energy assets.
This contrasts with the 43 per cent rise in power prices under the LNP.
There has been recent media stories reporting a $278 drop – or 19.5 per cent – in south-east Queensland electricity prices. Internal Queensland Government analysis uses different assumptions, and forecasts a smaller decrease, but shows the average bill in 2021-22 will be lower than those in 2018-19.
