17 August, 2018 –
Our innovative new Container Refund Scheme starts on 1 November this year.
If you’re interested in how the scheme will work, head along to a community forum on Saturday, 25 August at QUT Gardens Point, from 10am – 12 noon.
The scheme will provide Queenslanders with more opportunities to reduce litter and increase recycling, while being rewarded for their efforts. This will help to reduce the amount of drink container litter that enters the environment, and increase Queensland’s recycling rate.
Unfortunately, Queensland is a major underperformer in waste recovery by both national and international standards. The Container Refund Scheme will help incentivise recycling, and improve our results in this space.
Our Government is committed to improving our recycling rates and building a diverse and sustainable waste management industry.
We know that recycling not only benefits the environment, but also provides job opportunities for our communities.
