Putting the squeeze on lemons

lemon laws

9 April, 2019 –

The Palaszczuk Government has delivered on an election commitment to put the squeeze on lemons and give greater consumer protection to Queenslanders lumbered with a newly purchased defective vehicle.

Back in 2014, the Newman LNP Government scrapped the Class B Statutory Used Car warranty for second hand vehicles over 10 years old or with more than 160,000 kilometres on the clock. A protection that once removed only served to hurt the less well off in our community.

Not only have we recently reintroduced the Class B protections, but we’ve also passed a bill that provides justice to purchasers of “lemon” motor vehicles up to the value of $100,000. The previous limit was $25,000.
