Flipside Circus and debase win big at 2019 Matilda Awards

22 February, 2019 –

Two Stafford arts organisations won big at Queensland’s annual Matilda Awards this week, with Alderley’s Flipside Circus and theatre-makers, debase each taking home two awards.

The Matilda Awards, supported by the Queensland Government, celebrate excellence in our performing arts industry.

The Matilda’s are coveted awards, Flipside Circus won for Best Circus or Physical Theatre, and Best Director, for their show We Live Here which told the stories of children and families from Chermside’s Hummingbird House.

Debase were recognised for Best Mainstage Production for their show, The Longest Minute, as well as receiving the major Gold Matilda Award for their contribution to the industry.

Queensland has a unique and innovative arts and cultural sector that is gaining increasing recognition around Australia and the world. It is also a key economic driver – over 80,000 Queenslanders work in the arts and creative industries and nation-wide the sector contributes $86 billion to our economy.
