Affordable Energy Plan delivering for Queenslanders

Affordable Energy Plan

28 March, 2019 –

Our $2 billion Affordable Energy Plan continues to put downward pressure on electricity prices and ease cost of living pressures.

Queensland now has the lowest typical household power bill of the mainland states.

Thanks to our energy efficient appliance grants program, more than 54,000 Queensland households are reducing their energy usage with a minimum four star energy efficient fridge, washing machine or an air conditioner.

Queenslanders have already accessed 2,400 of the available 3,200 interest free loans and grants for solar and battery storage.

We are also helping to deliver cost savings to up to 4,000 households in Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Toowoomba and Hervey Bay through our Energy Savvy Families program. This helps regional families experiencing hardship to better understand when and how they use their electricity and how simple actions can reduce their usage and save money.

We also recognise that renters should have access to the benefits of solar, so in Bundaberg, Gladstone and Townsville, we are trialling grants for landlords to install solar, with safeguards built in for renters.

Some 200 energy audits are currently underway for farms and businesses in regional Queensland, giving them free, expert advice on energy efficiency.

And next month, Queenslanders should start receiving their second $50 dividend as owners of their power assets.
