1 July, 2019 –
The Palaszczuk Government has been working with Queensland Rail to improve rail services for commuters and from 29 July 2019, 430 weekly services will be restored, including 85 new peak hour services throughout the QR network.
This includes 44 services on the Ferny Grove line each week – an extra 20 services on Friday and six daily services Monday to Thursday.
These improvements to services along with six-car upgrades will deliver 200,000 more seats for Queenslanders each week, giving commuters more options to choose from, more frequently.
This latest announcement comes after we were able to restore 32 weekly services, many of them at peak times, last month.
Queensland Rail has worked hard behind the scenes to restore the complete 8,290 weekly services on its South East network, following the largest driver recruitment campaign in its history.
Since October 2016, 172 drivers have completed their training and are now operating across the network, with a further 79 currently in training.
Extensive planning has been undertaken by Queensland Rail and independently assured to make sure these new services are sustainable and that the transition goes as smoothly as possible, so commuters have more options, more frequently.
