Volunteer Week kicks off on Monday (11 May).
Volunteer Week is a celebration of volunteers and the enormous contribution they make to the community.
This year’s National Volunteer Week theme is Give Happy, Live Happy. The theme is based on research that shows people who volunteer tend to be happier, healthier, and even sleep better than those who don’t.
There are a huge number of community, social, sporting and arts organisations in our area. These groups all survive on the army of volunteers who deliver meals, assist people with disabilities, coach teams, wash uniforms, drive buses, attend rehearsals and undertake myriad other jobs.
Volunteer Week is our chance to say thank you to these volunteers and to encourage more locals to get involved in volunteer activities in our community.
The Queensland Government is the major sponsor for Volunteering Queensland’s National Volunteer Week program. For more information visit www.volunteeringqld.org.au
