2 August 2016 –
Grace Isdale, is a local student from the Grange who regularly volunteers as a mentor at the Spark Engineering Camp. The camp is an annual week-long event which brings together senior high school students from around Queensland and empowers them to pursue further educational opportunities. The participants are introduced to university life and explore tertiary educational pathways with a focus on engineering and science.
The program aims to assist students who may find it difficult to make the transition from school to university and introduces them to mentors within universities and industry. The participating high school students receive full scholarships to attend the event covering all the costs associated with the camp.
Grace has volunteered as a mentor for the Spark Engineering Camp since 2013. I was delighted to be able to sponsor her to take part in this year’s program.
The great thing about this program is that it enables young people to help other young people.
