STATE MEMBER FOR STAFFORD

Changes to parking on Stafford Road

18 September 2016 –

After a long process of consultation with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, traffic studies, and extensive community consultations with residents and businesses – changes will be made to parking signage along Stafford Road, between Richmond Street, and the Appleby Road and Shand Street intersection.

The majority of community members supported the proposed changes to parking signage on Stafford Road. Signage will be simplified from a combination of ‘Clearway’ and ‘No Stopping’ signage to ‘Clearway’ only. Parking restrictions will apply on weekdays only, between 7am and 7pm in the westbound lanes and between 6am and 6pm in the eastbound lanes. Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will install the new signage before the end of 2016.

As a result of feedback received during the consultation process, TMR further considered a proposal for weekday off-peak parking options in front of businesses on Stafford Road. A review identified a number of issues related to parking during these periods including the safety of all road users, people exiting parked vehicles, the efficiency of bus movements, as well as existing and future traffic volumes on Stafford Road. On this basis, weekday parking restrictions on Stafford Road outside the AM and PM peak periods will remain in place.

Community members also suggested a number of other potential measures to address congestion on Stafford Road. All of these suggestions, along with further input from elected representatives and the community, will be considered by TMR in future investigations for the area.
