3 March 2016 –
I want to encourage local Primary and Secondary schools and students to get involved with this year’s Buy Smart campaign.
Young people are active consumers, but many are unaware of their consumer rights. Things like when they are entitled to a refund and what to do when a product is faulty.
This is why the Queensland Office of Fair Trading runs the Buy Smart competition. The competition is open to students right across Queensland, it’s a fun and creative way to learn about some of these issues and gain the skills needed to manage them.
Young people are by far the best at getting these messages out to other young people. In the process the participants also learn a lot about consumer rights.
There are three categories; Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9, and Grades 10-12. Students can work individually or in small groups. There is over $11,000 in cash prizes for students and their schools. The competition closes on September 16.
