1 March 2018 –
The Queensland Office of Fair Trading’s annual Buy Smart Competition is now open for 2018.
Today’s young consumers face a complex digital marketplace through smartphones, social media, online shopping and continuous advertising, making it important for them to be savvy consumers, especially online.
The Buy Smart Competition promotes awareness of consumer issues in schools by getting students to think about shopping and money issues in a fun and creative way.
Students can make any project that helps teach other students about a consumer issue. Entries received in 2017 included board games, music videos and even a stop motion animation.
There are over $15,000 in cash prizes, including prizes of up to $500 for students and $2,000 for their school. Students can enter as individuals or as groups. Entries will close on Friday 21 September 2018. The winners will be announced in Term 4.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students, and I would encourage your school to get involved in this year’s competition. The competition is aligned with the National Curriculum, and can be easily implemented in the classroom and can count as assessment for some subjects.
The Office of Fair Trading can come to your school to talk to your students about the Buy Smart competition and about consumer and financial literacy issues.
