Queensland marks the first Anzac Day events 100 years ago – State Library of Queensland

This Anzac Day marks 100 years since the first Anzac Day services were held.

The first Anzac Day events were held in Queensland and as part of this year’s commemorations the State Library has digitised the first minute book of the Anzac Day Commemoration Committee. The minutes record the origins of the committee and its earliest meetings in 1916.

It is amazing to read these minutes and to be reminded that history doesn’t just happen – that a group of Queenslanders worked together to lay the foundations of Anzac Day.

Now that this book has been digitised everyone can easily access these records and read, first hand, about the ideas and discussions that contributed to the original Anzac Day events 100 years ago.

These new documents join the large digital collection the State Library has amassed – visit www.slq.qld.gov.au for more.
